A Physical Theatre Production by Shayne Justin Joseph
Every ballroom house begins with a mother. Not by blood, but by necessity. 20-minute physical theatre production exploring the complex relationship between a Drag Mother and her child. Set in a dressing room that transforms into a ballroom, the work brings together queer ballroom culture, movement, and spoken word to explore love, identity, and the rules we inherit to survive.
As the Mother teaches her child how to navigate a world that does not always accept him, her protection slowly becomes control. Torn between loyalty to the person who gave him a home and the desire to discover himself, the child must confront a difficult question: Can you liberate yourself without betraying the people you love?
Through physical storytelling, ENCORE explores the beauty and complexity of chosen family, reminding us that sometimes, the greatest act of love is learning to let go.
